episode 4: Dragged Out (Terrifier)
Terrifier aren't your average heavy band. The Birmingham-based metal act — now performing under the name Dragged Out — brings a horror-influenced identity and a level of stage energy that's hard to ignore, and they back it up with a genuine investment in the local scene.
In Episode 4, I sat down with Jordan (guitar) and JD (vocals) when the band was still going by Terrifier to talk about how they got started, what keeps the Alabama heavy music community feeling like a tight-knit family, and where their sound is headed.
We covered a lot of ground: the conversation that started the band, why Birmingham and the surrounding scene has a sense of community you just don't find in bigger cities, and a moment from a live show involving a kid at his very first concert that stuck with both of them. We also got into the horror aesthetic that shapes their identity, what a live set actually feels like from the stage, and new music they had in the works — including a move away from their earlier sound and a shift toward dropping singles.
Before wrapping up, we hit the rapid fire round: favorite horror villains, post-show food orders, and the story of a guitar that ended up under a Tahoe.
If you've seen them live under either name, you already know. If you haven't, this is a good place to start.
